Our story
This work began long before the business did.It began with two sisters.
TWINSS grew from a twin relationship, an unexpected caregiving journey, a promise made within a family, and years spent asking why truly individualized support can be so difficult to find.
The story starts with twins.The same birthday. Almost nothing else in common.
Jessica and her twin sister have always been polar opposites.
Different personalities. Different temperaments. Different interests, strengths, preferences, and ways of moving through the world. If one zigged, the other usually zagged—and neither has ever had much trouble being entirely herself.
Being twins never meant being the same. It meant growing alongside someone whose life and experiences could be completely different from your own, while remaining deeply connected.
That relationship taught Jessica something important long before she had professional language for it: there is no single version of a good life, and support should never be built around assumptions about who a person is or what their life should look like.
That twin relationship is the heart behind the name TWINSS—and the reason this work has always been personal.
The name carries the mission.
The World I Need Support Services reflects a simple but powerful idea: support should help a person shape a life and a world that work for them. The name honors the twin relationship at the company’s beginning while keeping the focus where it belongs—on each person’s voice, choices, relationships, and vision for their own life.
The promise
A life in the community—not an institution.
Jessica made a promise to her father that her sister would remain part of her family and community, with the support needed to live a life that was hers.
Experience became advocacy.Advocacy demanded action.
Listening differently
Jessica saw how easily a person can be underestimated when professionals do not slow down, adapt, and recognize communication beyond spoken words.
Questioning what is accepted
She learned to challenge service decisions that prioritized systems, schedules, or convenience over the person’s assessed needs and stated preferences.
Investing in the people providing support
She saw that continuity depends on Direct Support Professionals who are prepared, respected, fairly valued, and given the tools to do complex work well.
Building around the person
She came to believe that small, consistent teams and honest collaboration create stronger support than treating people and staff as interchangeable.
